Our first wedding at Grootbos Nature Reserve! Our professional photographers Natelee & Annerien covered Jessica & Tyran’s awesome midweek wedding. This stunning venue is located very close to the most southerly tip of Africa at Gansbaai. Beaches, bushveld and African Wildlife. What a lovely change of scenery to the winelands!
Tyran and Jessica met 3 years ago in London after being shamelessly set up by Tyran’s cousin who thought they would have a lot in common. It was an instant click, both of them sharing a passion for travel and adventure. And what followed was three years of fun, traveling and adventures together.
Although we live in London together, our love of the outdoors and my desire to have a beach wedding made South Africa an unquestionable choice of location, especially given that Tyran descends from Cape Town and all of his family live there –
Grootbos offered the perfect venue. (including sentimental ties to our engagement which happened there the year before!) It allowed us to have our dream beach wedding in the beautiful Walker Bay Reserve, where we could be barefoot on the beach listening to the waves crash in the background
The ceremony on a secluded beach also included a 4×4 trip for all the guests. Jessica was dressed in a Charlie Brear Vintage inspired gown – a classic and elegant look that perfectly complimented her.
I had never dreamed of getting married in a large, heavy dress! I knew that I wanted my dress to be uncomplicated, low backed and elegant. The beautiful silk felt incredible to wear and travelled well from London. Shortly after I found the dress, I asked Tyran what he envisaged me wearing – his description was a dress that was ‘simple and elegant’ which made me smile as I already felt I had found the dress matching that description!
After the ceremony, the guests (40 close family and friends) were served champagne, cocktails and canapes, as the sun set to live music performed by the talented duo, Acoustic Element. The evening reception was like a romantic fairytale, taking inspiration from ‘a midsummer nights dream’. A candlelit 5-course dinner was served under the stars in the very magical Milkwood tree boma, and guests danced to the swing and jazz sounds of the brilliant 5 piece Moonshine Band.

About Grootbos Nature Reserve
The Grootbos Private Nature Reserve is an award-winning five-star eco-paradise, located close to Hermanus in the Western Cape province in South Africa. Grootbos can boast that it has been named one of National Geographic’s Unique Lodges of the World.
The name Grootbos, an Afrikaans word meaning Big Forest, is derived from the presence of our ancient Milkwood Forests. Milkwood trees are known to grow over 1000 years old and their gnarled branches and mossy beards create an enchanting atmosphere of deep soothing tranquillity and rejuvenation.
It is amongst these ancient forests that Grootbos has artfully laid out its exquisite 5-star accommodation offerings, with breathtaking views across the fynbos plains towards the sparkling whale sanctuary of Walker Bay in the distance. Visit the Grootbos Website for more information
