It is the end of 2019 and we’ve updated our Top 10 Wedding Venues in Cape Town. It is never an easy task to choose the best venue in Cape Town, but having worked at most of the very best wedding venues that Cape Town, we’re confident in our list of the best venues in Cape Town and the Cape Winelands.

5. Nooitgedacht Estate – Stellenbosch Venue
We’ve covered weddings at Nooitgedacht since 2009. It is situated 5km outside Stellenbosch on the R304, it is just 40 minutes by car from Cape Town City Centre. It is a true All-in-One venue that allows for all the preparations and proceedings to happen on-site, which saves a lot of travelling time!
Nooitgedacht, our number 5 in the Top 10 Wedding Venues, is a classic example of a Winelands Estate. It is set on 270 hectares of farmland and currently produces a limited number of premium Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot wines. The Manor House, once the private residence of Cecil John Rhodes, was built in 1774. Together with Groot Constantia, it is regarded as one of the most authentic examples of traditional Cape Dutch architecture in South Africa.
The Estate boasts with plenty of indoor and outdoor ceremony and reception options, with a chapel that can seat up to 120 and a very spacious banquet hall (old cellar) that can take up to 260 guests. It is also a photographers dream with lovely gardens, huge oaks and the fantastic winelands scenery, with vineyards and fruit orchards that is set on the backdrop of the Stellenbosch mountains.

Bride & Groom Preparations – Nooitgedacht
The Bridal suite in the Manor House is the perfect setting for Bridal Preparations. It is tastefully decorated, spacious and will make you feel like the lady of the estate on your wedding day. It is big enough to comfortably fit the bride and all her bridesmaids… and yes, big enough for both moms as well!
The three original slave quarters have been lovingly and luxuriously redeveloped into fully-equipped suites that is perfect for the groom and his entourage to do their preps. Even though these suites are next to the Manor house, it is totally private, to allow for the bride and groom to comfortable get ready, each with their own privacy.
Wedding Ceremony – Indoor & Outdoor Options
The faunum (chapel) attached to the main cellar (banquet hall), is a fantastic indoor ceremony option. It is less that 50m from the bridal suite – so no need to arrange a bridal car when you get married on the estate. It is a rustic space with exposed brick wall and old wooden windows. The faunum can seat up to 120 guests.
For an outdoor ceremony, there are plenty of options to exchange your vows. The gardens are huge. My favourite spot would be the lawn in front of the manor house, with the bride appearing from the bridal suite and saying their vows under the shade of an oak tree that is older that the oldest person you know.
Pre-Dinner Drinks locations – Nooitgedacht
On a clear sky, sunny summers day, pre-drinks can be done on the lawn in front of the manor house or on the paved area in front of the cellar. Both spots are absolutely magical and will give your guests the full winelands experience when they sip their bubbly under the shade of those ancient oaks that is littered around the homestead.
For winter and grizzly cape rainy days, the foyer of the cellar can be utilised. This area is big enough to accommodate your wedding party, without them feeling squashed. With its wooden floors and ceilings and antique furniture pieces, it gives that warm farmhouse feel that will let the misery outside fade away.
Reception Options – Nooitgedacht
The old cellar (Banquet Hall) can accommodate up to 260 guests, making it one of the biggest venues in the Stellenbosch area. It is the only rustic reception hall in our Top 10 Wedding Venues list and we love it to bits! An oak-beamed roof, screed floors and rustically plastered walls are some of the elements that give the cellar its charm. It can be dressed in any theme – a fantastic blank canvas to work with. The main hall is flanked by modern ablution facilities and a bar.
Then you also have some magical outdoor reception settings. You can choose to have a long table set in the lane that leads up to the homestead. Or why not host an intimate open-air setting under a huge oak and dangle fairy lights from the overhanging branches? For a less risky outdoor option, there is also the spacious porch of the Manor House, that can be extended with a stretch tent if needed.
Catering & Bar service – Nooitgedacht
The food at Nooitgedacht is divine! They boast with a fully equipped kitchen and world-class chefs. Unfortunately, no outside catering is allowed. The kitchen offers a choice between buffet or plated 3-course meals and canapé’s and is charged on a per-person basis. Candy Bars and dessert tables are also done on request.
The fully stocked bar, just next to the main hall is spacious and has a rustic farm feel to it. The venue will provide barmen and waiters at a cost. All wine is supplied by Nooitgedacht and sourced locally from neighbouring wine estates. Should you choose to supply your own wine, corkage is charged per bottle. The bar is stocked with beers, ciders and spirits and is operated as a cash bar.
Wedding Photography Options – Nooitgedacht
Another reason why Nooitgedacht is in our top 10 Wedding Venues list is because of all the wedding photography options it has.
Even though the picturesque town of Stellenbosch is less than 5 minutes away, most couples opt to take their photos on the Estate. Take a short stroll over the railway line and you’ll arrive at a stunning dam, that reflects the mountains on the horizon. Right next to it, you have lush grassland and vineyards to capture those iconic Winelands wedding photos. In springtime, the orchard next to the cellar, with pink and white blossoms makes the perfect fairytale setting. The gardens with expansive lawns, little ponds and the formal garden at the back of the house with wisteria and Boston Ivy will give your photographer a field day at the office.
If your day is rained out, you can get the owners permission to use certain parts of the Manor house and its historic architecture and antique furniture.

4. Lourensford Estate – Somerset West
Laurent at Lourensford is our number 2 in the Top 10 Wedding Venues in the Cape Town. It is set on Lourensford Estate in Somerset West, the largest privately owned wine estate in South Africa.
Leading up to the venue, the tree-lined lane, sets the tone. It is most spectacular in Autumn with the falling leaves and hues of brown, yellow and red paving your way to Laurent.
The venue itself is set on the foot of the Helderberg mountains, overlooking the polo field and vineyards. From its spacious veranda, you have fantastic views over the Hottentots-Holland mountains and False Bay. The building itself is modern with angular lines and some earthy elements like sandstone and wood.
The main function venue design with neutral flooring, crystal chandeliers and predominantly white theme means this venue can easily be transformed to accommodate functions of a wide variety of styles and preferences. The venue is best suited to a sophisticated couple that wants to combine winelands with a modern contemporary feel.

Bridal and Grooms Preparations – Lourensford
The one thing that lacks at Lourensford in an onsite bridal suite and accommodation. But right next door to Laurent is the luxury Erinvale Hotel and Spa Golf Estate that is perfect for bridal and groom preparations as well as guest accommodation. Below, we’ve included a few photos of preparations done at Erinvale.
Ceremony Options – Lourensford
There are plenty of ceremony options to offer. For an outdoor setting, you can choose from the terrace leading down to the polo field, The lane leading up to the venue or the raised Polo deck on the side of the Polo Field. If you want to get married “up in the air” the latter should be your choice.
But my favourite outdoor ceremony option at Lourensford must be the setting in the middle of the tree-lined lane. More romantic than this you cannot get! Just imagine walking down that lane to see your groom standing on the side of the “tunnel”.
For less favourable weather, the veranda can be utilised. It is partly covered by a glass roof, a clever piece of architecture that will prevent you getting wet, but still lets the natural light through.
Pre-dinner Drinks – Lourensford
For your pre-dinner drinks and canapé’s the veranda, overlooking the estate and mountains, is just perfect. Part of it is shaded if you need relief from the scorching South African summer sun. Modern sophistication is a fitting description for this area with its sandstone coloured tiles, wooden veranda covering and symmetrically aligned trees.
Reception Hall – Lourensford
The main hall of Laurent is one of the biggest in our Top 10 Wedding Venues list! It can comfortably seat 250 guests with a dance floor. The space is predominantly white, but has some wooden and stone elements that add an earthy feel. The wall leading to the veranda is of glass – giving your guests the opportunity to admire the view even while inside enjoying the event. Tying in with the glass elements are the suspended crystal chandeliers, giving a touch of sophistication that is sought after by affluent wedding clients.
The venue is a blank canvas that can be transformed into just about any them or style. The venue is best suited to a sophisticated couple that wants to combine winelands with a modern contemporary feel.

Photo opportunities are plentiful – Lourensford is the proverbial “photographer’s dream”! The estate offers a fusion of historic Cape Dutch architecture and modern style buildings and the 4000 hectare Estate riddled with an array of fields, fruit tree orchards, vineyards, pine forests, gardens and dams.
My favourite spot is next to the lake and pine forest. If you catch the light right here, it is transformed into a magical fairytale setting that looks like you’re somewhere next to a lake in Canada.

3. Vrede en Lust – Cape Town Wedding Venue
Vrede en Lust Wedding Venue is a Wine Estate is our number 3 in our list of the Top 10 Wedding Venues in Cape Town and Surrounds. It is conveniently located in the middle of Stellenbosch & Franschhoek; a mere 40-minute drive from Cape Town. This 300-year-old wine estate is surrounded by breathtaking views of vineyards, mountains and beautiful Cape Dutch Manors and architecture.
Vrede en Lust is what we call an All-in-One wedding venue. It has all the facilities on-site, which means no time has to be wasted in travelling between the ceremony and reception locations. The main function hall, a permanent marquee with glass walls has 270-degree views of the vineyards and mountains making it one of the venues with the most beautiful backdrops.

Bridal and Grooms Preparations – Vrede en Lust
With so many options on you are spoilt for choice when it comes to bridal preparation facilities. The Manor house has long been one of my favourite bridal preparation venues, but the recently added “The Residence” puts luxury preparation into a class of its own.
The cottages and luxury vineyard rooms are just perfect for the groom and his entourage to get ready in.
Ceremony Options – Vrede en Lust
The outdoor ceremony location, on a lawn overlooking the old barn, vineyards and mountains lends a spectacular setting to exchange vows. The phrase “getting close to nature” cannot be more apt. there is also another lawn, set in the formal garden, on the other side of the entrance lane that can be used for an outdoor ceremony. A third option is to have your outdoor ceremony on the lawn at the back of the Manor house.
For wet and adverse weather conditions the renovated barn lends itself as the perfect indoor alternative.
Pre-dinner Drinks areas – Vrede en Lust
Pre-dinner drinks are normally done in the formal garden with fountain and pergola lined perimeter. This space, set between huge old oaks, vineyards and the beautiful Cape Dutch buildings is such a fantastic location for mingling with friends and family after the ceremony. The well-manicured gardens at the back of the Manor house is another great pre-drinks location.
The Reception Venue – Vrede en Lust
The Vineyard Terrace reception venue is certainly the most unique reception venue in our list of the Top 10 Wedding Venues in Cape Town. With glass doors that can be opened up on 3 sides, it lends the most romantic views of the vineyards and mountains. It is a blank canvas and can be transformed to suit every style or preference. the venue can seat up to 120 people, with dance floor inside or up to 150 guests with dance floor outside (weather permitting)
Trust me, on those warm summer nights in Cape Town there’s not a venue in the whole of the Cape Winelands that is a match to this one!
Wedding Photography at Vrede en Lust
This venue is a photographers dream! Outdoor settings miles of vineyards with mountain backdrops, Formal gardens, ancient oaks of over 300 years old and so much more.
And the Manor house with classical antique furniture, wooden clad walls, crystal chandeliers and stately high ceilings offers plenty of indoor photography options.
No need to leave the estate to take your wedding photos as there are more than enough possibilities onsite.
Guest Accommodation at Vrede en Lust
Vrede en Lust is one of venues in out list of the Top 10 wedding venues that can accommodate the most guests on-site. The various Manor houses and accommodations on the Estate can sleep no fewer that 52 guests! This is one of the most attractive facilities of one of the top wedding venues in Cape Town.
Luxury Vineyard Rooms – Surrounded by vineyards and a backdrop of the spectacular Simonsberg mountains – the Luxury Vineyard Rooms are the latest addition to the beautiful and romantic Vrede en Lust Estate. The 10 en-suite rooms with beautiful views over the vineyard can sleep 20 guests.
Cottages – The three converted Slave quarters right next to the Cape Dutch Manor House sleeps 4 guests each, adding a total of 12 more spaces for your wedding guests.
The Manor House – This beautiful building’s history dates back over 300 years to 1688, when built by Jacques de Savoye, the first owner of Vrede en Lust. It is a luxurious retreat with panoramic views from every window and can accommodate up to 8 people.
The Residence – The fully serviced and elegantly designed villa is ideal for the main bridal party. It has 6 ensuite bedrooms, multiple contemporary indoor and outdoor entertainment areas and is set in a private 3Ha/7.5 acre part of the estate with top security.

2. Cavalli – Stellenbosch Wedding Venue
Coming in at number 2 in our list op the top 10 wedding venues in Cape Town and surrounds, is the luxurious Cavalli Wine and Stud farm. This venue is located conveniently on the R44 highway 10 minutes outside Stellenbosch and just 40 minutes for Cape Town CBD. Where most of its counterpart farm venues have a rustic and historic appeal, Cavalli is the opposite. The architecture, gardens, fittings and furniture is ultra-modern and perfectly suited for the city sleeker that wants a wedding to fit in with his / her up to trend look and feel.
The estate offers one of the most amazing 360-degree views on the Cape Peninsula and Stellenbosch mountains, with majestic Helderberg just a stone throw away. Gardens are perfectly manicure and the dedicated outdoor ceremony area is a winner. The only reason that Cavalli did not get the top spot is because it does not offer onsite accommodation. However, with Stellenbosch just 10 minutes away, there are plenty of hotels and guest houses in the area in which you can put up your guests.

This venue is definitely for the refined, modern bride. If you like modern, angular architecture, clean lines, fine dining and wine culture, then you will fall in love with Cavalli. The Wedding Venue that overlooks a lake and the Stellenbosch mountains in the distance is nothing short of spectacular. It is a blank canvas that can be transformed into any theme – this is probably one of the most appealing assets of this world-class facility.
The venue is particularly popular with trendy, fashion-loving and up-and-coming entrepreneurs who want a venue that will reflect their style and outlook on life. This is not your typical wine farm and it is because of that that this venue has made it into our Top 3 Wedding Venues in Stellenbosch.
Bridal & Grooms Preps
One of the only reasons why Cavalli is not our number 1, is because they do not have onsite accommodation or bridal preparation facilities. I really hope that their future plan includes some accommodation and a bridal suite.
But in close proximity you’ll find a host of lovely guest houses. Majeka House just 10 minute from the Estate is one such is the 5-star Boutique hotel that offers lovely spacious and trendy rooms as well as a stylish lounge that is perfect for bridal and grooms portraits.
Ceremony Options – Cavalli
The sunken garden, a formal hedged space situated adjacent to the main reception hall is one of my favourite ceremony spots. It is almost totally sheltered from the wind, has the most beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and the synthetic turf ensures that this setting can be used all year round. It can seat 300 people cinema-style and 400 people standing.
Another lovely ceremony location is the lawn overlooking the clear waters of the dam in front of the function venue. The views from this spot is sublime and you can even see Table mountain on a clear day from here.
For wet weather, the indoor conservatory is perfect. It overlooks the dam and mountains in the distance and can seat up to 150 people cinema-style.
Pre-Dinner Drinks Areas – Cavalli
Both the Sunken garden and the lawn that can be used for ceremonies can also be used as pre-drinks areas. For more a more formal affair, the sunken garden is perfect. the lawn with its mountain views is often used for the setting of family photos and lawn games to entertain guests.
The deck that leads from the reception hall and the conservatory are the perfect backup spaces for wetter conditions.
Reception Options
The function venue that can host up to 300 people with a dance floor is one of the biggest function spaces in Cape Town and the Winelands. The contemporary and neutral design enables you to transform it to suit any style of event. With sliding glass doors that stretch from floor to ceiling lends panoramic views over the dam and mountains in the distance.
For smaller, intimate weddings, the conservatory, that can seat 50 guests with a dance floor, is just perfect. It’s a unique setting, right on the water’s edge mean your guests The glassed enclosure takes full advantage of the stunning views, over the dam to the Helderberg Mountains.
Since Cavalli is situated far from residential areas sound restrictions only come into effect at midnight. The bar closes at 2pm but the venue hire can be extended up to 4pm is needed.
Wedding Photography Options – Cavalli
Photographers have a field day at Cavalli. There are a host and variety of locations that can be used for a multitude of different backdrops and settings. This ranges from the lawn and entrance lane with mountain views, to the grass fields and orchards and pine tree lanes.
As Cavalli also produces wine, the many acres of vineyards is another great setting for wedding photos. Towards the bottom of the venue there is another, more rustic dam and natural fynbos that provides yet another location for wedding pictures.
If you are a horse lover, the function manager at Cavalli can help you arrange for photos with horses that are stables on site. This comes at an extra cost but is all worth the while as you’ll be able to use yet another area around the stables, paddocks and camps with its white wooden fencing.
Catering & Bar service – Cavalli
Apart from the function and banqueting facilities onsite, Cavalli also boasts with an award-winning restaurant that operates during normal business hours. For weddings and functions, this very kitchen is used to cater for guests. Their banqueting cuisine is renowned as some of the best in the industry with a focus on authentic, yet refined dishes. Outside catering is not allowed, but for kosher, halaal and other special dietary requirements due to religious beliefs, they will outsource it to their preferred specialist catering suppliers at an additional hiring fee for the use of our kitchen facilities.
Cavalli Estate is fully licensed and manages and will manage all your bar and beverage requirements in house. Unfortunately, no other alcohol may be brought onto the premises. their liquor licence regulations require the bar to close at 02h00.

1. Molenvliet – Stellenbosch Wedding Venue
Molenvliet Estate in Stellenbosch is the single venue in South Africa that we have worked at the most. It is no surprise then that it is our favourite and our number 1 of the Top 10 wedding venues in Cape Town and Surrounds!
The Banhoek Valley between Stellenbosch and the small town of Pniel is arguable one of the most beautiful valleys in the world! Molenvliet, a small boutique winery lies at the foot of this valley and is surrounded by the beautiful Simonsberg and Hottentots Holland mountains. Other well-known Estates in this stretch include Delaire Graff and Zorgvliet. The Estate is about 45 minutes by car from Cape Town and just 20 minutes from Franschhoek.
This Farm Venue is the perfect All-in-one wedding venue has everything you need. With a very versatile function hall, a Cape Dutch Style manor house, vineyards, a lovely river that cobbles along the foot of the property, a cellar that can be used for indoor ceremonies, plenty of luxury suites and rooms that can accommodate up to 54 guests, perfectly manicured gardens and lawns for outdoor ceremonies and entertainment areas that include two swimming pools, Molenvliet is by far the best all-round wedding facility in the Stellenbosch Area.

Pre-dinner Drinks Spaces
All of the ceremony areas mentioned above can double up as outdoor pre-drinks areas. But added to that are also:
- The patio next to the reception venue – with views over the vineyards and Dwarsrivier that runs through the venue, this deck is my favourite. It is close to the bar, kitchen and ablution facilities but you still have that fantastic outdoor feel.
- The courtyard in front of the reception hall, this enclosed space with an open roof in the middle and covered perimeter can also be covered with a stretch tent for wet weather conditions. The perfect backup plan!
My favourite is the lawn in the middle of the vineyards! Just imagine sipping your bubbly while surrounded by vineyards and mountains while listening to some fine live entertainment and enjoying the company of your closest family and friends.
Reception Options
Molenvliet offers plenty of versatile reception spaces:
- The Main Venue with its “all-white” Colonial meets Cape Dutch style is designed to adapt to any wedding or event, without it ever looking the same. It is the perfect blank canvas! But apart from this main hall that can accommodate up to 250 guests. The rectangular shape means you can apply a multitude of floor plans so that no one wedding will look the same as the other. The hall also boasts with a very spacious modern bar area and a guest lounge with permanent furniture. Both areas are finished off with stylish checkered flooring.
- The open-air Courtyard, that overlooks the veranda and deck facing the Vineyards, this is perfect for smaller functions or can be utilised as a dance floor when the venue is at full pax.
- The Patio next to the venue – If you are looking for an open-air setting with all the convenience of the adjacent indoor space then this is a good option. This area is for great for smaller wedding parties and intimate weddings.
- The Vineyard lawns van be used to erect a marquee – Imagine a clear tent in summer and partying the night away under the stars!
Wedding Photography Options
Molenvliet offers wedding photo opportunities galore. This is a working wine farm that produces award-winning wines, yet it is perfectly manicured lending luxurious and opulent feel. Apart from the rolling vineyards, impressive old oaks and winding paths the estate also boasts with one of the most amazing backdrops in the mountains surrounding it. Other photo-worthy elements include the newly installed fountains, the lush banks of the Dwars River and the tree-lined entrance lane.
The Manor House and River Manor offers some fantastic indoor photo settings. Both are classically furnished and decorated to ensure your indoor photos will totally match up to the quality of those taken on the rest of the estate.
Of all the wedding venues in Stellenbosch, Molenvliet offers the most variation in photo opportunities and backdrops.

The kitchen at the main reception hall is spacious and fully equipped, but no resident caterer, so you have to hire in your own and outside caterers are welcome.
The bar at the main reception venue is fully licenced and fully stocked. No third-party bar services are allowed and only Molenvliet wines can be served at weddings. Corkage fees apply only to Cap Classique and Champagnes.
Accommodation at Molenvliet Estate

- Mountain View Suites – The thirteen en-suite Mountain View Suites that overlook the Drakenstein Mountains and Estate Vineyards is the perfect hideaway for guests wanting to take in the immaculate views from their private balcony.
- The River Manor is nestled in the Vineyards overlooking the Simonsberg Mountains; this Boutique Guest House consists of four double en-suite bedrooms. the perfect space for the groom and his party to get ready in.
- The Manor House consists of six double en-suite rooms, with spectacular Vineyard and Mountain Views from the communal areas. Built-in a Cape Dutch Style, with immaculate gardens and a circular fountain at the entrance – this boutique guest house is the pinnacle of luxury accommodation and very apt bridal preparations location.
