Nigerian Wedding in South Africa
Lourensford - Somerset West
With two big Corporate Incentive trips in Europe and a wedding in Spain wrapped up, its finally time to share Ugonna & Ikenna’s Nigerian Wedding in South Africa.
It was another successful destination wedding, coordinated by the Aleit Group – Nothing beats years of experience – Job well done Melissa and team!
The day started in Cape Town CBD with the Ugonna’s preps at the iconic Mandela Rhodes Place 5-star hotel. Imagine getting your make-up done with the magnificent Table Mountain in full view! What a way to start the day.
With both Ugonna and Ikenna being Roman Catholics, St Mary’s Cathedral in town was the obvious choice for the ceremony. It has been a while since I shot a wedding there. I must say, that place just has a feel of holiness and authenticity the moment you step into it. With civilisation in South Africa as we know it a little more than 300 years old, this cathedral with its high ceilings, arches and stain glass windows is really something special!
Coming down the isle, Ugonna looked fantastic in her Monique LHuilier Dress and train. Her maid of honour’ was dressed by @Peridotofficial.

After the ceremony the whole party headed to Lourensford Estate in Somerset West, where the reception was held. Our couple, originally from Nigeria, now lives in the USA. 150 Friends and family joined them to celebrate their wedding in style at Laurent, one of the prized wedding venues in the Western Cape.
The couple shoot was done in the lane leading up to the Laurent Function Venue. I also found a great spot just next to the lane with the perfect view of the towering Hottentots-Holland mountains as backdrop. There is so much to work with at Lourensford, one feels a bit overwhelmed by all the choices!
All the while we were gone for the couple photos, guests were treated with mouth-watering bbq meats, prepared on the spot by Gustav and the Stir food team.
I am always in awe of the colourful and sophisticated outfits of the guests at Nigerian weddings and this one was no different. But there was a set of twins guys that I’d give first prize to – you’ll spot them in the pics below.
The entrance at African weddings are probably one of my favourite parts of the day – and this time around it again lived up to the expectations! So much energy and laughter and just pure joy – makes you want to step in and dance along – I love it!
All in all, this Nigerian wedding in South Africa was one of the most enjoyable jobs I did this summer – A big thanks to Ugonna and Ikenna for trusting us with your special day!
