Kleinevalleij Wedding Venue Review
Wellington
Kleinevalleij has in recent years shot up to be one of the best wedding venues in Cape Winelands This purpose built wedding venue is situated in the Boland town of Wellington – a mere 1 hour by car from Cape Town. The location at the foot of the Bain’s Kloof mountain pass is breathtaking and for that reason a very popular choice with brides.
The main wedding venue at Kleinevalleij comprises of a restored and modernised Victorian manor with a classic veranda that walks down with a classic stairway to terraced lawns. This is the perfect spot to have your ceremony surrounded by rolling vineyards and majestic mountains as backdrop. For wet weather conditions, Festa next door or the Manor House veranda can be untilised – but because of Wellington’s awesome climate for most of the year – this is seldom needed. For the more traditional ceremonies, one of 7 churches in Wellington can be booked. The churches (NG, Catholic, Anglican and other denominations) are only 3 mins outside the town which means very little time be wasted to get guests to the venue afterwards.
Tracking back to bridal and grooms preparations, there are plenty of nearby options. My favourite must be the breathtakingly beautiful Grand DeDale that is featured in the photos below. This place has such nice light to work with, not to mention the awesome furniture and decor in the main house. The wrap-around veranda of the manor house creates this instant holiday feeling – You can just imagine yourself lounging on that stoep on a warm summers evening. For a Kleinevalleij wedding, this is the ideal preparations venue and wedding night accommodation.
For pre-dinner drinks on site there is the veranda and courtyard with purpose built fountains and a big old oak tree for guests to lounge under while family photos are being taken elsewhere. Some couples also extend this area to include the top part of the lawn – the ideal setting to put down lounge pockets with roman-like linen shade coverings.
The main wedding venue can accommodate 200 guests with a dance floor with ease. This is a massive bonus as there are few wedding venues in the Cape that has this capacity. It also has a purpose built kitchen and inhouse caterers. But should you want to bring in your own caterer, then that can be arrange by paying a kitchen usage fee. An outside caterer that I can highly recommend for Kleinevalleij is Malita Joubert Catering. The bread and french style finger foods you see in this blog post was either done by her or the in-house caterers.
A second venue option for smaller wedding parties is the rustic Festa right next door to the main venue – a converted barn that has been fashionable decorated with collectable retro 50′s 60′s furniture, chrystal chandeliers and other period artifacts. With an rough stonebuilt fireplace inside there is no other venue that can match this one in cosiness and ambiance for winter weddings. Festa is good for weddings up to 60 people.
Another added bonus of Kleinevalleij is that they have an independent wedding coordinator that is based on site. Hannes Maritz of KRAAK runs a very creative coordination and planning service and some of the photo below shows the amazing work he is capable of. As a matter of fact, we here are Zarazoo is so impressed with the fantastic work that they do that our very own Natelee has hired him to coordinated her wedding at Festa!
Both Kleinevalleij and Festa is fully licenced and all alcohol sales are handled by by the Estate. Your own wine can be brought in, but a corkage fee does apply.
To summarise, we think Kleinevalleij ranks under the top 10 if not the top 5 wedding venues in Cape Town and we love working there. The estate has so many options and that coupled with amazing owners and staff means it is always a pleasure for us to work here.
Apart from the Grand Dedale mentioned at the top, the Kleinevalleij wedding venue also has their own wedding accommodation. The cottage seen below can sleep up to 18 people and is situated only 3km from the main wedding venue. They’re beautiful new bridal preparations venue is also nearly done.
