It was definitely 100% worth it to trek all the way from Cape Town to KZN to cover Sthembiso & Nomfundo’s wedding at St Ives near Pietermaritzburg. Man, you guys in KZN know how to throw a party – no expense spared!
This one is definitely right up there with Mikki & Nwabisa’s wedding we did last year at Webersburg in Stellenbosch. For the reception, a massive “glass” marquee to accommodate the 450 pax guest list was erected – not to mention the spoil with live performances by famous SA entertainers the likes of Malaika & Zakes Bantwini! Rewind to the ceremony – imagine 4 helicopters descending in unison for the arrival of the bride, groom and entourage… and wait for this… the bride carried to the isle “queen-style” by 4 “Mr World” contestants.
We lost a bit of time because of the ceremony running late, so most of the couple shoot was done in total darkness! Luckily I had invested in an Elinchrom Quadra Ranger just a week before! This portable flash system also has a pilot light function which gives a beautiful soft light – in the end I must say, I’m quite proud of these night shots – most taken on about 1/30 shutter speed wide open on my 85mm f1.8. (sorry for all the tech jargon brides!)
A big thank you to Garden Route Photographer, Jaco Vollgraaff, that assisted me on this one!
This is by far the most extravagant Durban wedding we have attended, so far at least. Everything from the way the couple arrived by helicopter, the bride being carried on a throne, to the decor and food was amazing. This wedding reception is a party that the guests will certainly never forget. The Zalebs in attendance added to the esteem of the event. And the outdoor setting and wildlife contrast brilliantly with all the formalwear and high-end decorations at the venue. The party at the reception was an amazing bash. All the friends and family members danced together. Truly a South African celebration.
