Courtyard Wedding at Molenvliet Wine Estate
Stellenbosch
Kirsty & Simon’sĀ Intimate Wedding at Molenvliet was different in so many ways! They literally turned the venue upside down. For instance, the ceremony was done in the street between the vineyards, instead of the normal lawn location and instead of using the venue hall for their reception, they had their sit-down meal in the courtyard! I love it! We need more people like Kirsty and Simon. They spice things up and make life interesting!

Molenvliet Wine Estate Wedding
Kirsty, originally from SA and Simon from Australia, now live and London. Kirsty tells us that both of them actually left their home countries on the exact same day! If that is not a sign, then I don’t know what is!
To find a continent to get married on was a headache. TheyĀ had friends and family coming from Johannesburg, Cape Town, Australia, Paris, Singapore and Hong Kong so they wanted somewhere that would be appealing to everybody…the Western Cape fitted the bill. They eventually settled on the Molenvliet Wine Estate venue.
We wanted to make the day really fun and interactive for the guests as we knew this was most likely going to be the only time we would get all our family and friends in the same country together at the same time. Simon had the idea of having a farmers market style set up for the canapĆ©s/starters which meant that our guests were up and about mingling and sampling all the dishes. The food was amazing (although sadly I didn’t get the chance to try everything)…we had a crostini station, game meat food station and a seafood station. We added some fun lawn games such as ten-pin bowling, mini putt putt and Jenga which added to the family feel of the wedding.
Getting Ready at the Manor Guest House
KirstyĀ got ready at the spectacular Manor House on the Molenvliet Estate. SheĀ wore Marie Laporte creation. Here is her description of it.
Ā I first found it on Pinterest and combined a trip to visit Simon’s brother Dave in Paris to go try it on and then eventually collect it. It just felt like me when I put it on. It was really light and comfortable to wear. I couldn’t have worn lots of layers of petticoat – I am really clumsy so that would have been asking for an accident!
Simon and the boys did their preps at the River Manor, also on the Molenvliet Estate. The groomsmen hired suits from Euro Suit as it would have been a struggle to coordinate actual suit purchases from around the world. Simon wore a suit made for him by Jack Bunneys in London. Simon got the boys cufflinks that had little maps of Melbourne and Johannesburg to show where they both came from and tie clips that said Ngu-men (a play on Simon’s surname Ngu which is pronounced “new” and Kirsty surname which is Newman). How original!
Kirsty and Simon’s wedding was definitely one of the most refreshing, fun and enjoyable of the year. Their 60+ guests enjoyed the day tremendously and as you can see from the pictures they had a lot of fun.
