Black and White Wedding Photos at Lourensford
Somerset West
Here’s one for the books! A wedding covered totally in black & white! Well at least, covered in colour, but edited totally in Black & White. I can tell you one thing… Vicky & Ryan’s Lourensford Wedding will be one for the archives!
Our couple met 10 years ago on a flight to Malaysia. Both Vicky & Ryan were provincial hockey players and it was on that long flight to the east, going on a hockey tour, that fate had them sit next to each other.
After that 18 hour flight we knew that we would be friends forever, the cherry on the cake was being life partners.
Fast forward 10 years and the adolescent hockey player had matured into a beautiful young woman, walking down the aisle, with a very eager young man waiting in anticipation on the other side, to, at last, make the woman he loves, his life partner!
Both bride and groom did their preps at Albourne Guest House in Somerset West. Vicky looked magnificent in her Elizabeth Stockenström creation.
I was not one of those brides that stressed endlessly about the dress. I just wanted it to be something I felt comfortable in and something that made me feel good. I went to Elizabeth Stockenström with my mom & 2 of my bridesmaids and within 15 minutes I had found exactly what I was looking for. Simple, classic and a slight ball gown. The second dress was just as easy with a family friend making something i felt sexy in. I had only decided on a second dress a month before the wedding but I was so glad I did because I could party the night away comfortably. It also doubled up as my “church gown”
Ryan had his two suits custom made on a trip to Thailand earlier in the year. But there was a bit of a snag! Cut to 1 week before the wedding and he made the harsh discovery that neither of his prized duo of suits fitted anymore!!!! They ended up having to buy two brand new suits 3 days before the wedding! Well, they say there is always a hook that makes you remember your wedding. I’ll bet this tale will be the hook, the story that will be told over a thousand times in the years to come!.

This was a completely new request for us as wedding photographers. The couple requested that their wedding is captured completely in black and white photography. Seeing the beautiful vineyards and mountains on greyscale was a new experience for us.
It was a perfect summer’s day in Somerset West. The ceremony was conducted in the tree-lined lane leading up to the venue. After the vows and formalities, the wedding party was led, by a traditional Cape Brass band. The pre-dinner drinks area on was the veranda at Laurent. Here, they were treated to a variety of canapés prepared at food stations. During this, we took the couple for their photo session to a few secret locations on the Lourensford Estate.
Vicky & Ryan wanted a simple yet signature wedding theme for their wedding day and reception. A theme that would make guests say: “That is so Vicky & Ryan!”. To make it all happen, Jade of Jade Customized Events was hired. They briefed her on their desired look and she made the miracle happen! The culmination was all white with touches of rose gold geometrics and greenery. And lots and lots of flowers! Exactly what they envisioned!
