Funny how fate brings people together. Who would have thought that a German boy from Windhoek would hook up with a Mauritian girl from London? Jane booked us while they still lived in the UK. Since then, they moved to South Africa, for Bernard’s new position as asset manager of the stylish Zimbali lodge in Balito near Durban.
Before we get our teeth into this awesome wedding – a bit of advice…
Don’ t fly Mango to Durban! – The legroom is ridiculously little – Forget it if you are over 6 foot, you’ll injure yourself – Rather fly Kulula – much much much better! (as we found out on our return trip)
Jane & Bernard got ready at Zimbali Lodge. Man, this place is posh! It’s a 5-star hotel, built in the middle of a tropical forest! We were fortunate to also stay there for 2 nights (thanks Jane!) – we felt and were treated like royality!
From a photographers’ point of view, there is so much to work with – we took some bridal portraits of Jane and the girls in and around the lodge pool bar and restaurant.
The ceremony and reception venue, Collisheen estate was only 10 minutes inland. This purpose built wedding and conference venue lies in the heart of the sugar cane plantations. The ceremony was conducted in the little chapel on the grounds and the reception in the massive rondawel that was stylefully decorated.
Jane & Bernard made sure there wasn’t a dull moment. They treated their guests to a series of entertainers, from Zulu Tribal dancers to flame throwers and traditional Mauritian and German dancers.

This was our 2nd last wedding of the South African season. Next weekend, I am shooting Didi & Herman’s wedding in Thailand (Phuket) and then we head for London to cover the UK wedding season. If you live in the UK and would like to meet up to dicuss your wedding photography – please contact us.
