Saturday started off with the perfect wea ther, I even went for a quick dip at Onrus beach, but by 10am, the wind started blowing and by 3pm it was a gale.
I made a point of if to get to the venue (White Water Lodge) early to check out a few photo spots up the mountain. But is was all in vain… Just as the ceremony started, so did the rain and we had to go back to plan B. Only problem was that my plan-B spot (The main house) was also the plan-B spot for the pre-drinks!
So, instead of getting the “perfect day shots” we had to make a quick mind shift and improvise. The couple was up for it!
You can’t actually see it in this shot, but it is pouring with rain. Our assistant took their umbrella away for 10 seconds and we got these great shots!

White Water Lodge is located near Stanford on the R326 in the Western Cape of South Africa. It is a great getaway – besides being an awesome wedding spot off course. The main attraction is the fly fishing, but they also have great facilities and activities like Quad Biking and Kayaking that will keep you entertained.
The wedding venue has a safari lodge feel. The main house and cottages are decorated in a African hunting theme and speak comfort and relaxation. The ceremony was done in the Chapel (formerly a Witblitz brewing room) and the reception under a free-form tent on the lawn.
Marc and Senette, both lawyers, are easygoing people. Marc has lots of energy – I overheard that he went flying through the air while quad biking just hours before the ceremony. Senette has class and elegance – They are a great combination!
If you want to capture the essence of a wedding, you have to get shots like these. The ceremony has just finished and the guests have left for the pre-drinks venue. Mark is throwing his hands up in despair about the rain that has started during the ceremony.
Just outside the reception tent, the staff lit the trademark “fire conca”. This empty oil drum decorated with african motives was fed the whole night. It added to the atmosphere perfectly!

The dance floor at White Water Lodge is also outside. By the time the first dance started, it had stopped raining and the party became alive!
