4. Rockhaven Wedding Venue
Rockhaven Farm in the Elgin Valley is our number 4 in our Top 10 Wedding Venues in the Western Cape. The Overberg Region has grown a lot in popularity with quite a few wedding venues like Old Mac Daddy, Southill, Mofam and Gabrielskloof – all fantastic venues in the Elgin Valley and Botrivier. This part of the world is truly magical. The mountains, valleys, orchards and farm-style buildings give a tranquility and peace – a perfect setting for a romantic wedding! Rockhaven is only a 75 km drive from Cape Town, but once you go over the Hottentots Holland Mountains, you will feel like you are in a different world!
This venue is ideal for couples looking for a true earthy and rustic setting. It has two venue spaces, the Barn and the Boathouse. The latter, set on the edge of a dam overlooking the estate and mountains is my favourite of the two. It can seat up to 80 guests and can also double up as an indoor ceremony option. Both venues are characterised by cement floors, rough brick walls, exposed roof trusses and lots of wooden elements. Weather permitting (summer and autumn), outdoor ceremonies can be conducted on the lovely lawn that flows down from the main house to the dam. This space is big enough to also host pre-dinner drinks and lawn games while guests wait for the wedding photos to be taken.
The main venue, “The Barn”, an old converted apple shed, is the bigger reception venue of the two, seating up to 150 guests with a dance floor. When you combine this unrefined feel with sophisticated elements like crystal chandeliers and fairy lights, the venue is transformed into a fairytale setting. Some couples opt to have an outdoor dance floor in the courtyard right next to the Barn. Nothing like partying the night away in the open air with a sky full of stars! An added bonus is that there are no real sound restrictions as the venue is set on a farm with neighbours far enough away to not be bothered by your party.
The main house together with the other cottages can sleep up to 14 people. There are plenty of neighbouring farmhouse accommodation and good quality guest houses in the area as well.

3. The Grand Beach & Cafe Venue
What makes “Grand Beach & Cafe” unique is that it is one of Cape Town’s only beach cafe’s. With more than 2700km of coastline you would imagine that South Africa has more beach venues, but that is not the fact. In Cape Town, there are only a handful of venues situated on the beach, with the Grand Beach & Cafe certainly the closest one to the water. Standkombuis in Yzerfontein and the Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa in Camps Bay are two other top venues that fall in this category.
If you are looking for a restaurant venue that has the charm and the view, look no further. The Parisian café chairs, beach, decking &umbrellas as well as the mix of antique and modern furniture makes it one of the most trendy and stylish spots in the mother city. It is the perfect summer wedding venue! The views over the blue atlantic with super yachts anchored close bymake you think you’re somewhere on the French Riviera.
Imagine a beautiful outdoor ceremony on the beach with sea sand under your feet and a light breeze cooling down the nerves
The reception venue (the warehouse) can seat up to 300 with a further 700 that can be accommodated outside – making it one of Cape Town’s biggest venues! A further bonus is that the interior needs no dressing! The Retro meets Chic look with long tables, high ceilings, beautiful custom made cement bar and Parisian chairs have enough charm to make George Clooney look like a caveman!
The Grand Beach & Cafe operates as a restaurant and is headed by Chef Sir Greg Baverstock. The menu focuses on the freshest possible produce that is prepared in a simple, yet elegant way. The seafood and Al Fresco platters are my favourites and perfect to capture the essence of the marine setting.
Since the venue is located near the Cape Town City centre you will have no problem in getting a taxi to your overnight accommodation of which there are plenty to choose from – Cape Town is South Africa’s number one tourist destination after all!
Next week we will reveal the final two spots in the countdown of Top 10 Cape Town Wedding Venues.
