A good friend of ours, Karla Oettler of Absolute Weddings and Events Coordination, aksed us to do a “corporate image” shoot for her.  The chosen location was the cut-off bridge, close to the V&A Waterfront – The elevation helped us to get some great shots of Karla with the City of Cape Town in the background.

Photographers:  Stefan Steenkamp & Andre van Niekerk

We did this shoot with 3 x Canon 580EX II flashes and one reflector.  The photos were taken late afternoon, but even then, the sun is very harsh and the flash trigger system used, was ineffective when the sunlight fell on the sensors.

Advice for other photographers when shooting here:  Wait until 1 hour before sunset;  then half of the bridge is covered in the shadow of the adjacent building, but the rays still highlight the tall buildings in the city.  Take a scrim to cover/put shade on the model/subject, and then shoot with flash.
