Chris and Angelique’s wedding at Kiepersol Rant in Bloemfontein took place on probably the most popular wedding date of last year – 17 Dec!

Meyer & Rene of Magno Photography in London covered this one for us. Meyer was one of the first photographers to work for ZaraZoo when we started our business in London in 2003. When we left London in 2006, Meyer and his wife, Rene, started their own photography business that has since become one of the leading photography studios in the UK.

Greek weddings – never a dull moment! So much laughter, traditions, the emotions, the dancing and offcourse – lots and lots of plates being broken!

To do the wedding of a friend is both exciting and nerve wrecking!

Exciting because I will share the wedding with them – but nerve wrecking because you want to deliver the best possible service and not disappoint (as you might mess up a good friendship!)

Jaco & Bonita’s wedding at Lourensford & Waterkloof restaurant had another bit of extra pressure on! Jaco is the owner of Just Jack wedding coordination, a top Cape Town wedding and events planning outfit!

But like you’d expect from the wedding of a professional wedding coordinator… All went smooth and to plan… which made my job a breeze!

The beautiful open air ceremony was held at the brand new wedding venue on Lourensford Estate and the reception at the very modern (X-men like) Waterkloof restaurant on the Waterkloof Estate near Somerset West.

Catherine & Berton

Fun all the way through!

I dare you to show me a couple that is better suited for each other than these two! Catherine and Berton is not only in love, but also best friends, quirky and extremely funny! Never a dull moment when you are around these two!

Their non-conformist attitude also came out with the very interesting “cake-cutting” shot and swapping the garter and bouquet toss around (groom tossed the bouquet and bride the garter.)

My second time around at the Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town – I must say – the 3 times that I have shot there in the last 3 months were very successful each time round. If you like architecture, beautiful gardens and old English charm, then this is the venue for you!

Conrad and Ricolette’s wedding at Allee Bleue in Franschhoek – Keywords: Hoofs, Horses, Vintage Fairytale…

A word of advice – if you decide to get wedding photos taken with a horse, make sure its a friendly one!

Poor Ricolette walked away from their couple shoot with her hoof print patterned dress and a bitten hand!!!!

But that did not dampen their spirits at all – If anything, it gave them the “hook”, a classic story they’ll tell a thousand times over, over the years to come.

Allee Bleue has a variety of wedding options including open air ceremonies under ancient oak trees; 3 reception areas and plenty of photo opportunities with beautiful Cape Dutch buildings, vineyards and expansive lavender fields, nestled in between the Franschhoek Mountains.

Class, Charisma and Confidence…

There are no better words to describe handsome Dincer and his beautiful bride Tamryn. And no other spot in the whole of the winelands could suit this couple better than the very lavish Val de Vie Polo Estate in Franschhoek.

My favourite shots of the day: The cigar bar photos of the groom and his best men puffing away while sipping their Martini’s – James Bond has met his match!

Dincer – you’ve single handedly brought the white dinner jacket back into fashion!

ZaraZoo Photography relocated to South Africa 5 years ago – I can’t believe it took that long to do my first wedding at the iconic Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town! Michelle & Naz’s wedding was the first one in the newly renovated Planet Restaurant.

Naz, a motorbike fanatic hired a vintage bike and sidecar from Cape Sidecar Adventures – “boys and their toys”! Not a surprise that this 2nd world war piece features a lot in the photos.

Stellenbosch Wedding

Diary Entry – 15 December: Annabelle & Andre’s wedding at Nooitgedacht Estate in Stellenbosch. At the bridal preparations the Canon 1D MK4 fell so hard the rugged aluminum body cracked open – luckily it was still 100% usable!

Cameratek saved our butts by giving us a loan camera for the 8 other weddings we had lined up for the rest of December! Mental note – never climb on bed again to take photos of a wedding dress – be extra careful when jumping off!!!

I won’t bore you with the rest of the details – All I can say is that after that fall, things got a lot better! Nooitgedacht is a fab wedding venue! – so much to work with! My favourite images of the day are the ones taken of the bride in the secret garden round the back of the manor house. Enjoy!

Nick & Bruna

Right smack bam in the middle of the most hectic week in the history of ZaraZoo – but could not wait until Monday to share this lovely wedding we shot at our favourite beach venue, Strandkombuis.

Sometimes you can just sense that a couple is totally meant for each other – such a couple is Bruna & Nick! A lovely crowd and what I think a pretty awesome couple shoot in the salt pan behindthe venue – enjoy the photos.

A big thank you to Andre van Niekerk of Vivid Blue for covering this wedding. Andre shaped himself during his 3 year stint as ZaraZoo main photographer before moving on to set up his own photography outfit.

Makhosi’s wedding at Velmore Estate {Centurion} my first of 3 visits to Gauteng within just 2 weeks. The last time around at Velmore, in March, we got a taste of the totally unpredictable Highveld thunder storms and were forced indoors for most of the photos. This time we were blessed with absolute perfect weather… It might have something to do with the fact that there were quite a number of pastors {including the groom} in the guest list.

The hidden gem!

In over 8 years as wedding photographers, I can’t believe I have never worked at this venue! A hidden gem – Langverwagt in my book!It’s very close to Cape Town and has everything you would expect of a top rated wedding venue. Apart from the historic cellar (reception area) and the beautiful grounds, the stunning gardens around the manor house is what stood out for me.

Sheri & Andrew, both from South Africa, now live in London – and this is also where I met up with Sheri the first time. These two have taken life by the horns – a very positive and bubbly couple with lots of energy. Guys, your wedding w as one of the first of our se ason – what a great way to start off a jam-packed stretch of weddings!
