Your wedding dress is probably the single piece of clothing that you put the most thought into – probably the most expensive item you have bought to date… And yet you’ll probably only wear it once!!!
Why not wear it again ?
When we asked Marieke & Louis whether they would like us to do a TTD (Trash the Dress) photography session with them, they jumped at the opportunity. We had shot their wedding in the Free State in December and we wanted to do something different – so we headed into the streets of Cape Town.
Marieke and Louis live right on Green Market Square and that is where we started. Cape Town is so awesome… It has this buzz that reminds me of holidays in Europe. People sit outside sipping coffee and beer, with street musicians providing the entertainment. It is totally clean and you feel very safe (walking around with camera kit worth over R100 000!). I think Helen Zille has done an amazing job of cleaning up and making this beautiful city safe again – she was voted the best mayor in the world after all!!!
And then from a creative point of view, Cape Town is a treasure trove of nooks and crannies, architecture and interesting people that will inspire any artist!
It was the 3rd shoot we had done with Marieke & Louis, so by now they were well accustomed with being in front of the camera. Apart from getting interesting architectural backgrounds, I also wanted to try out new and unusual poses that you would not normally do at a wedding. So we just set off and found the most amazing spots on the way – my favourite of the day… was the photos at the old dilapid ated building.
