International Wedding Photographers ZaraZoo Wedding Photography – Cape Town

What’s up with all the British and Irish girls snatching our boys?  Like so many South African guys, Haydn went to London for a working holiday… and the rest is history.  In October we did Johan & Deborah’s wedding – same story!

I met up with Lilian & Haydn in London when I worked there in September.  Their E-session, done on the South Bank of the Thames, rank under my top 5 Engagement shoots to date.

Neethlingshof just outside Stellenbosch was the chosen venue for the wedding.  It has one of the most amazing lanes of pine trees, leading up to the winery.  They had an outdoor ceremony on the lawn.  The weather was perfect – clear skies and maybe a tad too hot.

No, this has nothing to do with bigamy!

The previous record we had was when we did the twin wedding of Yolanda Cuba and her sister Amanda!

But not all the brides at this wedding were getting married.  The true bride of the day was Thereza Scholtz   The four other brides, whose weddings we shot in the past year and a half, were guests.

We are still editing Thereza’s photos, but you can see the previous posts on Niki’s Photos and Marieke’s Photos.  Brigit and Yolandi’s weddings were done pre-blog, but you can see them on our website.

Is anyone to argue that ZaraZoo is blessed with good looking brides?

Yes, we are still alive…

We are just taking a well deserved break – chilling out on the beach with the kids and doing absolutely nothing.  We will be back in the office on the 5th of Jan, but we are still picking up emails and calls, so give us a buzz to set up a meeting and E-session.

Don’t be fooled by their names.  This was far from the traditional Afrikaans wedding you would expect.  Anna is from the Ukraine and you can think of Dirk as the evolved “Boerseun” that now runs a successful business and drives a top notch sports car.

Tomorrow I will be shooting a TTD (Trash the Dress) session on the beach – Talk about being inspired!

Scott and Yulagh are some of the most interesting people you could ever meet!  Scott is an adrenalin junkie, hooked on adventure (abseiling, kite surfing etc).  He also runs a web marketing company, Andiyazi of which we are a client.

They got married last weekend in Cape Town at St Barnabas Catholic church in Kloof Nek.  Photos were taken at 2nd Beach, Clifton.

Just last week, I posted Louis and Marieke’s E-session that was done at Big Bay.  We shot their wedding this past weekend at Lala Nathi Gountry Guesthouse in Harrismith (Free State).  Yes, the Free State…

But it was worth the 6 hours travel (from Cape Town) to get there, because I met the most amazing friendly and hospitable people.

About 6 months ago, a friend of mine, Sybrand Cillie (Pro Photography) introduced me to “Off Camera Flash” (OCF).  He uses the Elinchrom Skyport system and suggested I get my hands on a set.

At the time, Orms charged me R1800 for a Transmitter and Receiver.  Not cheap, but far cheaper than the Pocket wizards (alternative).

The Skyport units are often used in a studio set-up, but we use it mainly for outdoor OCF at weddings.  The transmitter unit fits onto the camera’s flash mount and the receiver unit needs to be connected to your flash.

The day before I shot Nikki and Toni’s wedding in Bredasdorp, I met up with Thereza and Leon to have some fun on the dunes and beach at Arniston.

I will be shooting their wedding on the 20th of December at Nightwatch, half way between Arniston and Bredasdorp.  The M-Net series “Ella Blue” was actually shot at the fisherman’s cottages at this venue & Arniston.

If you wanted to upset quite a few brides, then you should have planted a bomb at the Cape Town Wedding Photographers (WAP) year end braai last night!

A while ago WAP (We are Photographers) group was created on Facebook.  In our first get together, a bunch of us went to see Annie Liebovitz’s movie “Life through a lens”. Jean Pierre Uys organised this outing that really set the tone for us photographers to collaborate more.

Our second outing was a “Mock Reception shoot”  at Webersburg Estate.  See Christine Meintjes’s and Mitch Wong Ho’s posts about this outing.

And last night we had a great social braai.  Seems like the group and comaradery is growing!  Some of the guys had already left when this photo was taken.  See more photos of the braai on the WAP facebook page.

For Marieke en Louis, it was love at first sight.  Ironically, they met at a wedding.

“There was no more space in the bus that ferried guests to the reception and this young lady (Marieke) offered me her seat, as long as she could sit on my lap”  said Louis.

I never heard Marieke’s side of the story….

Marieke heard about ZaraZoo from a friend that attended a wedding we shot last year.  We will be shooting their wedding this coming Saturday in Harrismith, Free State.  I am ashamed to say that I have been all over the world, but can count the times I have been in the Free State and Gauteng on one hand!

Anyway – we met up for their E-session at Louis’s house on the beach front.  The setting was perfect!

If you haven’t already heard of Konfetti online magazine, go and check it out.  It is South Africa’s first online wedding magazine!  Why go out to buy a wedding magazine when you can browse through one online for free!

The second issue (quarterly Mag) is out today, the 1st of December.

One of their featured Real Weddings is that of Monique & Chad.  We shot their wedding in March this year at La Petite Dauphine in Franschhoek.  Only a few shots were included in the magazine, so I thought I’d post our favourites of the day to compliment theirs.
